Look out for attitudes that can hamper your professional career

Sometimes without our knowing we end up building wrong attitudes in our workplace. By the time we could realize it we might have lost a great career opportunity. If you consider that your skills are cutting edge and unique, but they cannot always stay like that, then only two factors determine your long-term career success - your physical appearance and your mental attitude. Physical appearance does not only mean the way you dress up and speak, but it considers your punctuality, your working hour dedication etc. When it comes to attitude, then Psychologist and Career Coach Shivani Misri Sadhoo shares some checkpoints:

  • Make sure you do not hold unclear job expectations. If you're unclear about the degree of authority you have or what your supervisor or others expect from you, you're not likely to feel comfortable at work.

  • Make sure you avoid taking part in any kind of office rumours or scandal gossips. These talks might be indulging and interesting, but they are just wastage of time and energy or even can turn against you.

  • Avoid building perceptions about your colleagues and seniors; remember human beings are always conditioned to time and situations, everyone holds immense possibilities to change and grow at any point of time.  You may judge a person for a certain situation but perceiving him or her is impossible. On the other hand, perception holder opens the door for others to get him or her perceived.

  • Always be 100% honest towards your own work. Never let any kind of external influences affect your work dedication and honesty.

  • Always work on work-life balance. If your work takes up too much of your time and effort that you don't have the energy to spend time with your family and friends then it is bound to affect your mental health and work efficiency. So always work on life job- life balance first. It can be done by re-evaluating your work procedure to bring up your time efficiency level or to shift your residential location to the place nearby your office.
