Are you really a strong person or you have a perception of being strong?

Saying things like, "I'm not scared" or, "criticism cannot affect my spirit" doesn't necessarily mean you're mentally strong. In fact, there's a good chance you might just be acting tough.

While acting tough may meet your needs in the short term by artificially boosting your ego or by getting other people to back off but , it's not a good long-term strategy. In a recent psychological study, it is found that people who develop the tendency of acting strong put themselves in serious troubles like – one may not go to the doctor by believing themselves and telling their loved one that they are fine. Also, when people act they are strong and they usually misinterpret the danger or make wrong decisions.

It's not always just men who feel the need to act tough. Many women do, as well. Psychologist Shivani Misri Sadhoo today shares three signs that can tell you if you're just acting tough:

1. If you face self-doubt or lack 100% self-assurance.
Acting tough involves developing a personality that says, "I'm the best." but behind that tough exterior, there's often a lot of self-doubt. Remember mentally strong people never waste time to act rather they utilize their time and mental energy on improving themselves.

2. If you put lot of efforts to show your strength in comparison to develop a new skill.
People who act tough are usually more interested in showing off the skills they already have, rather than learning anything new. Mentally strong people view failure as a stepping stone to success. They trust in their ability to bounce back from setbacks, and they're prepared to learn from their mistakes.

3. If you get highly affected by other’s judgement and opinion about yourself.
Remember, mentally strong people never get worried about proving anything to anyone but themselves. It's only when people who act tough are very concerned with their appearance. Their self-worth depends on other people's view them.
