Is ‘overoptimism’ ruining your relationship?

Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. And more so when you’re dealing with a partner, who is an ‘enthu-cutlet’ or overly optimistic. From having unrealistic expectations to making unreal assumptions, relationship experts Dr Anil Sethi and Shivani Sadhoo explain how ‘too much sunshine’ is can actually be harmful in your relationship. Communication gap:

Overly optimistic partners avoid dealing with arguments, as they don’t want to deal with negativity. Experts say, to solve fights, one needs to confront. If not dealt with the problems, it keeps piling up, affecting the relationship.

Expectations: Too much of positivity can lead into a false sense of security. An overoptimistic partner often ends up miscalculating the gravity of situation. This leads to resentment as expectations of a partner are not meant.

Overconfidence: An optimistic partner assumes that things will go according to their plan and nothing can go wrong. They don’t keep backup plans for decisions and end up in troublesome situations at times.
